Congratulations Leee and all the team.

The project is looking great and, to help spread the word, I have added a link on my website. I know there is still a lot of hard work ahead so hang in there.

Cheers,

John

Last night i spent a truely inspiring evening at the BRIT school in croydon,i am filled with hope for the new generation of amazing talented young people ,i went to support a family friend a young beautiful and talented singer jade, i thought the school would be full of big smiles and jazz hands ! boy was i wrong ! it was filled with great kids from every background, all colours, all shapes and sizes it was so refreshing ! it was as if this project had already been seen by these young people! we were allowed three votes, one vote went to my talented friend and my other two went to a young black male artist who was only 16 and his voice was simply brilliant and i approached him and told him how fantastic he was! his pure natural talent filled me with joy ,in addition my other vote went to a talented young female singer of the same age,she not only sang brilliantly,it was her stage presence and the way she worked the audience ,which is usually a learned art which comes with age and experience that surprised me ! but ALL of them did so well and i was so pleased i went ....the best £4.00 i have ever spent! !!!

This site is truely impressive and encapsulates the feeling, passion, pride, enjoyment, affection and a level of genuine optimism that existed during this part of our history.

Something like this has been long overdue and now we have a place to fully celebrate and recognise those 80\\'s musicians and fashion icons, who for so long, have not been given the praise for shaping the changes that have contributed to our society.

Hopefully, all youngsters, regardless of colour will learn from our experiences. The youngsters who now carry the baton must learn to respect and embrace the challenges, head on, that they will face. With a positive outlook and history now in their favour, I hope that path ahead is not so full of negatives but full of optimisam and hope.

Anything is possible, look at Lewis Hamilton and President Elect Barrack Obama, the world is your oyster. Our past has dictated our present, what you do now will dictate your future.

The world is a stage, it is now your turn to take to the stage and perfom.

Good Luck to you all

OH MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU MR LEE JOHN.
LIKE OTHERS, I GREW UP WITH THIS MUSIC;I WAS INSPIRED BY GROUPS LIKE YOURS TO BECOME A MUSICIAN;WHICH TODAY I AM PURSUING.
IT ALWAYS AMAZES ME WHEN I GO INTO A BOOKSHOP;I CAN NEVER SEEM TO FIND A BOOK THAT IS WRITTEN SOLELY ABOUT BLACK BRITISH MUSICIANS HISTORY ;THAT GETS TO THE ULTIMATE TRUTH ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCES OF THE INDUSTRY;ABOUT ANY REGRETS OF WHERE THE CAREERS OF MUSICIANS COULD HAVE BEEN ,COMPARED TO MUSICIANS IN THE UNITED STATES.
I AM COMMITTED TO ONE DAY AS A FREELANCE JOURNALIST ,TO WRITE A BOOK THAT GETS TO THESE ULTIMATE TRUTHS.
LEE,YOU MUST NEVER GVE UP HOPE;OUR MUSIC HISTORY NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED AS TRUTHFULL AS IT CAN FOR THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD TO HEAR AND SEE.
YOUR WEBSITE IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THAT TRUE EXPERIENCE.
GOD BLESS YOU GUV.
ROGER HOWARD.

IMPRESSIVE SITE FOR AN IMPRESSIVE INITIATIVE!
History in the making, the making of history. Finally a well-deserved tribute to Brit Soul and Funk, offering a true window of life through black music history.

Hey Leee. Firstly congratulations to you and everyone involved with the flashback project in starting something so important. The website is already really impressive.

Watching the trailer made me realise just how much great music from right here in the UK has been pushed to the recess of my mind, which only made me even more aware of just how important this project is and how much its needed.

Like others in this forum I pledge my full support to the flashback project through my work with young people, my work on www.whoaworld.com (90.4fm), and any other station or musical ventures I'm involved in.

Hey Leee,

Glad that this is finally coming around, we've discussed over the many years the need for such a presentation on the global influence that UK soul has had on music lovers everywhere. Remember when we were at a cookout in north London several years ago and someone pulled out a compilation of Earth Wind & Fire and Imagination from a French label I believe. That pairing sums up the esteem that Imagination and other UK acts together, are held in. Time for the world to see also.

Who could ever forget how the UK Soul scene (from The Limit to Eye Level to Imagination to Princess and many others) really splashed down on the east coast of the US in 1981 - 82, with heavy airplay on top urban stations without tour support. I'm glad to have been aprt of this scene as first a fan and enthusiast, and eventually as promoter, journalist, producer. Good lucky star!
